Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Facebook Inc. and his wife Priscilla Chan are expecting a baby girl, according to the CEO’s Facebook page on Friday. The couple got married in 2012 and have been trying to have a child for a while, but they have suffered from three miscarriages as per what Mr. Zuckerberg said. The 31-year-old didn’t say when the baby girl was due, but he did say that the risk of another miscarriage was low because they were quite far ahead in the pregnancy. The founder of the largest social media network in the world said that they were sharing their experience to give others hope, one they also felt, and would encourage others to share their stories.
The founder often uses his Facebook page for sharing personal and corporate announcements. He opened up in this post and shared the emotions he and his wife, who is a doctor, experienced while they were trying to have children. He discussed the hope they felt when they came to know about the pregnancy. He stated that it was a lonely experience for you to begin making plans, only to find out they couldn’t be.
He further added that most people avoided discussing miscarriages because they don’t want others to make judgments or distance themselves and therefore, they have to struggle on their own. The CEO said that his 30-year-old wife and his daughter were healthy and he would share more news as the due date draws nearer. He wrote that in the ultrasound, his baby girl had even given a ‘thumbs up’ with her hand, indicating that she was already taking after him. The couple were classmates at Harvard University and dated for longer than a decade, ultimately deciding to get married.
