The stock market movies have always been a good part of the drama. Whether it is the wild vibe of the volatility of the markets compared to last year, or the new and exciting company ready to go public, there is almost always something to be enthusiastic. 

No wonder Hollywood likes to tap inspiration on Wall Street. 

 There are dozens and dozens of films about financestock market movies and Wall Street – some of them were winners of Academy Awards (for example, “The Big Short”), and others were total bombs (for example, “Supercapitalism”). But if you want to spend time to watch for the best, here is a list of that many see as the cream of the crop.

Other People’s Money (1991) 

It is the story of “Larry the Liquidator” (Danny DeVito), a corporate raider who decided to take over the cable firm through a hostile takeover. 

Too Big to Fail (2011) 

The history of the 2008 financial meltdown and Secretary of the Treasury focuses on Henry Paulson. A close look behind the scenes in late March and mid-October 2008: We follow the effort by Richard Fuld to save the Lemman Brothers; They want a personal solution for Lehman as they negotiate between Hank Paulson (Treasury Secretary), Ben Bernanke (Federal Reserve Chairman), and Tim Geithner (New York Fed president); And Paulson, back-channel talks between Warren. In the end, Paulson ponders whether banks will lend, arranging bailouts without strings, restoring humble confidence on Wall Street, and melting away.  

Margin Call (2011) 

Another stock market movies set during the 2008 financial crisis, “Margin Call,” depicts the story of several leading players of a financial firm who find they are on the verge of bankruptcy due to exposure to mortgage-backed securities. 

Characters are forced to take dramatic steps to control their losses — but we won’t spoil them for you. If you are interested in what happens during a crisis inside financial firms, this may be the film for you. 

Follows the lead individuals in an investment bank during the initial stages of the 2008 financial crisis over 24 hours. 

Equity 

It is depicts an investment banker, Naomi Bishop (played by post-breaking bad Anna Gunn) working for her employer on a significant technical initial public offering or IPO. However, she gets entangled with her boyfriend in an insider trading scheme. 

This film can help you gain insight into the nuances of investment banking and IPOs. And fraud, of course. 

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) 

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) movie is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, covering a wealthy high-life stockbroker from his downfall to his crime, corruption, and the federal government.  

If you’re not familiar with the life of former stockbroker Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), you’ll be caught “The Wolf of Wall Street.” The film follows Belfort, who makes a fortune to cheat investors by selling stocks of every penny each while being chased by the FBI and SEC.
