Gaming Mouse – Why Office Professionals Need Them Too

It used to be that computer gaming equipment was specifically intended for just that – gaming. However, more and more people are realizing the benefits that this technology has to offer, and they vastly outweigh that of traditional technology, particularly with respect to computer mice. The look of some brands may stand out like a sore thumb in an office setting, but aesthetics aside, there are some real benefits to gaming mice that office professionals will find useful.

Time to Spare

If your job involves a lot of time in front of the computer, you would use keyboard shortcuts a lot. While this helps for quick execution of your work, it still takes up your valuable time. If you count the seconds that it takes to perform each command and then add them all together, you may be surprised by the results – especially when compared to how the quick tap of one button on a gaming mouse can do the same thing in the fraction of the time.

Most mice come with driver software to allow you to program each button of a gaming mouse, but for the ones that don’t, there are alternative products which is completely free to use and allows you to program whichever button you’d like with whatever shortcut you desire.

Double Duty

In addition to being able to program each button of your mouse to execute different commands, you can also assign each button a length of time (holding it down) in relation to triggering a command. For example, you can assign a “thumb” button on the side to launch a word document with one quick tap and assign the same button the duty of launching a different program by holding it down for a few seconds.

Another benefit to utilizing a gaming mouse is that you can more easily avoid accidentally hitting the wrong key (which can be quite annoying) when you’re trying to work quickly to meet a deadline.

Precisely What You Need

Gaming mice have a higher DPI (dots per inch) rating than traditional mice. Computer mice work by shining a light onto the surface being used and with a tiny camera, takes hundreds of pictures, and then compares these pictures to determine the direction you’re wanting the cursor to move. The higher the DPI rating, the more sensitive the mouse and thus the more accurately it will follow your directions.

Most traditional mice have a DPI rating of between 800 and 1,000, whereas a gaming mouse can offer 16,000! That’s a significant difference. This feature is particularly helpful for jobs requiring the use of spreadsheets as you can easily and smoothly navigate and maneuver over each individual cell.

If you’re not a gamer, it might (at first) seem odd to consider using such technology outside of the realm of video games, but whether you’re a designer, accountant, manager, or any other professional who requires the use of a computer to do your job, you will undoubtedly appreciate the overall efficiency of this technology. Once you go gamer mouse, you’ll never go back!
